Cisco Identity Services Engine Cross-Site Scripting Vulnerability

Summary

• A vulnerability in the web framework of Cisco Identity Services Engine could allow an unauthenticated, remote attacker to conduct a cross-site scripting (XSS) attack against a user of the web interface on the affected system.
  
  The vulnerability is due to insufficient input validation on several web pages. An attacker could exploit this vulnerability by persuading a user to access a malicious link.
  
  To exploit the vulnerability, the attacker may provide a link that directs a user to a malicious site or provide a crafted file intended to submit malicious input to the affected software to a user and use misleading language or instructions to persuade the user to follow the link or open the file.
  
  Cisco indicates through the CVSS score that functional exploit code exists; however, the code is not known to be publicly available.

Affected Products

• Customers should refer to Cisco bug IDs CSCur69835, CSCur69776, CSCut25227, CSCus16049, and CSCus16050 for a complete list of affected product versions.

  Vulnerable Products

  At the time this alert was first published, Cisco Identity Services Engine versions 1.0, 1.0 MR, 1.1, and 1.2, 1.3, and 1.4 were vulnerable. Other versions of Cisco Identity Services Engine may also be affected.

  Products Confirmed Not Vulnerable

  No other Cisco products are currently known to be affected by these vulnerabilities.

Workarounds

• Administrators are advised to apply the appropriate updates.
  
  Administrators are advised to allow only trusted users to have network access.
  
  Administrators are advised to run both firewall and antivirus applications to minimize the potential of inbound and outbound threats.
  
  Administrators may consider using IP-based access control lists (ACLs) to allow only trusted systems to access the affected systems.
  
  Administrators can help protect affected systems from external attacks by using a solid firewall strategy.
  
  Users are advised not to open email messages from suspicious or unrecognized sources. If users cannot verify that links or attachments included in email messages are safe, they are advised not to open them.
  
  Users are advised not to open unsolicited email attachments.
  
  Users are advised not to visit websites or follow links that have suspicious characteristics or cannot be verified as safe.
