A vulnerability in the Simple Network Management Protocol version 3 (SNMPv3) access control functionality of Cisco Adaptive Security Appliance (ASA) Software and Cisco Firepower Threat Defense (FTD) Software could allow an unauthenticated, remote attacker to query SNMP data. This vulnerability is due to ineffective access control. An attacker could exploit this vulnerability by sending an SNMPv3 query to an affected device from a host that is not permitted by the SNMPv3 access control list. A successful exploit could allow the attacker to send an SNMP query to an affected device and retrieve information from the device. The attacker would need valid credentials to perform the SNMP query. Cisco has released software updates that address this vulnerability. There are no workarounds that address this vulnerability. At the time of publication, this vulnerability affected Cisco Adaptive Security Appliances and Cisco Firepower Appliances if they were running a vulnerable release of Cisco ASA Software or FTD Software and had SNMPv3 access control configured.

To determine whether an SNMPv3 user-based access control entry is configured, run the show running-config snmp-server CLI command and check for the presence of version 3 in the output. The following output shows a configured SNMPv3 access entry:

Only products listed in the Vulnerable Products section of this advisory are known to be affected by this vulnerability.
Cisco has confirmed that this vulnerability does not affect Cisco Firepower Management Center (FMC) Software.
There are no workarounds that address this vulnerability.
When considering software upgrades, customers are advised to regularly consult the advisories for Cisco products, which are available from the Cisco Security Advisories page, to determine exposure and a complete upgrade solution.
