A vulnerability in the ISDN subsystem of Cisco IOS Software and Cisco IOS XE Software could allow an unauthenticated, adjacent attacker to cause a reload of an affected device, resulting in a denial of service (DoS) condition. The vulnerability is due to insufficient input validation when the ISDN Q.931 messages are processed. An attacker could exploit this vulnerability by sending a malicious ISDN Q.931 message to an affected device. A successful exploit could allow the attacker to cause the process to crash, resulting in a reload of the affected device. Cisco has released software updates that address this vulnerability. This vulnerability affects Cisco devices if they are running a vulnerable release of Cisco IOS or IOS XE Software and are configured with an ISDN interface.
For information about which Cisco software releases are vulnerable, see the Fixed Software section of this advisory.
To determine whether a device has an ISDN interface configured, use the show running config | include isdn switch-type command in the CLI. If a value is returned, an ISDN interface is enabled. The following example shows the output of the command on a device with an ISDN interface:

Note: The exact switch type does not affect this vulnerability.
Only products listed in the Vulnerable Products section of this advisory are known to be affected by this vulnerability.
Cisco has confirmed that this vulnerability does not affect Cisco IOS XR Software or Cisco NX-OS Software.
There are no workarounds that address this vulnerability.
Cisco has released free software updates that address the vulnerability described in this advisory. Customers may only install and expect support for software versions and feature sets for which they have purchased a license. By installing, downloading, accessing, or otherwise using such software upgrades, customers agree to follow the terms of the Cisco software license:

Additionally, customers may only download software for which they have a valid license, procured from Cisco directly, or through a Cisco authorized reseller or partner.
