Cisco License Manager Directory Traversal Information Disclosure Vulnerability

Summary

• A vulnerability in the web interface of Cisco License Manager software could allow an unauthenticated, remote attacker to download and view files within the application which should be restricted.
  
  The issue is due to improper sanitization of user-supplied input in HTTP request parameters that describe filenames. An attacker could exploit this vulnerability by using directory traversal techniques to submit a path to a desired file location. An exploit could allow the attacker to view application files which may contain sensitive information.
  
  Cisco has not released and will not release a software update to address this vulnerability. There are no workarounds that address this vulnerability.

Details

• Cisco License Manager is a secure client/server-based application that is used to manage Cisco IOS Software activation and license management for a wide range of Cisco platforms running Cisco IOS Software as well as other operating systems. The Cisco License Manager GUI client and server software was offered free of cost and no service contract was required.

Workarounds

• There are no workarounds that address this vulnerability.

Fixed Software

• Cisco has not released and will not release software updates to address the vulnerability described in this advisory. The Cisco License Manager has entered the end-of-life (EoL) process. Please refer to the Cisco License Manager 3.2.6 Product Bulletin EoL notice.
  
  Customers are encouraged to migrate to Cisco Smart Software Licensing, more information is available on the Smart Software Licensing Overview web page.
  
  When considering a device migration, customers are advised to consult the Cisco Security Advisories and Responses archive at http://www.cisco.com/go/psirt and review subsequent advisories to determine exposure and a complete upgrade solution.
  
  In all cases, customers should ensure that new devices will be sufficient for their network needs; new devices contain sufficient memory, and current hardware and software configurations will continue to be supported properly by the new product. If the information is not clear, customers are advised to contact the Cisco Technical Assistance Center (TAC) or their contracted maintenance providers.

Exploitation and Public Announcements

• The Cisco Product Security Incident Response Team (PSIRT) is not aware of any public announcements or malicious use of the vulnerability that is described in this advisory.
