The vulnerability is due to the presence of undocumented, static user credentials for the root account. An attacker could exploit this vulnerability by using the account to log in to an affected system. An exploit could allow the attacker to log in to the affected system and execute arbitrary commands as the root user. Cisco has released software updates that address this vulnerability. This vulnerability affects Cisco Policy Suite releases prior to Release 18.2.0.
Administrators can check the release of Cisco Policy Suite that is running on a device by using the about.sh command in the device CLI. The following example shows the output of the command for a device that is running Cisco Policy Suite Release 18.0.0:

Cisco has released free software updates that address the vulnerability described in this advisory. Customers may only install and expect support for software versions and feature sets for which they have purchased a license.
