A vulnerability in ICMPv6 processing of Cisco Adaptive Security Appliance (ASA) Software and Cisco Firepower Threat Defense (FTD) Software could allow an unauthenticated, remote attacker to cause a denial of service (DoS) condition. This vulnerability is due to improper processing of ICMPv6 messages. An attacker could exploit this vulnerability by sending crafted ICMPv6 messages to a targeted Cisco ASA or FTD system with IPv6 enabled. This vulnerability affects Cisco ASA Software and FTD Software when it is configured with the IPv6 protocol.
Note: Devices that have only IPv4 interfaces configured are not affected.
To determine which interfaces have assigned IPv6 addresses on a device that is running an affected software release and has IPv6 enabled, use the show ipv6 interface brief CLI command, as shown in the following example:

In addition, if IPv6 is enabled, the ipv6 enable interface configuration command is present in the configuration. The following example shows the output of an affected configuration:

Only products listed in the Vulnerable Products section of this advisory are known to be affected by this vulnerability.
Cisco has confirmed that this vulnerability does not affect Cisco Firepower Management Center (FMC) Software.
There are no workarounds that address this vulnerability.
Cisco has released free software updates that address the vulnerability described in this advisory. Customers with service contracts that entitle them to regular software updates should obtain security fixes through their usual update channels.
Customers may only install and expect support for software versions and feature sets for which they have purchased a license. By installing, downloading, accessing, or otherwise using such software upgrades, customers agree to follow the terms of the Cisco software license:
