The Kerberos Telnet protocol, as implemented by KTH Kerberos IV and Kerberos V (Heimdal), does not encrypt authentication and encryption options sent from the server, which allows remote malicious users to downgrade authentication and encryption mechanisms via a man-in-the-middle attack.
